The election result was a decisive win for Labor. Workchoices was the major point of difference between the two parties with the issue being driven by the union movement. The stakes for the unions were high and they had no hesitation in pouring $30 million of members’ funds into the campaign. Small business owners will have much to worry about as unions will expect a high return on their investment in Labor’s victory. (more…)

Workchoices or No Choices!

When contesting the election against Paul Keating in 1996, then Oppostion Leader, John Howard stated he would like Australians to feel relaxed and comfortable. At that time Australia was in debt to the tune of $80 billion, our waterfront was one of the most inefficient in the world, inflation was rampant and unemployment was rife. Keating was not able to break this downward spiral because union bosses would not allow him to introduce the necessary workplace reforms to increase productivity. (more…)

The rejection of the black armband view of our history by students is no surprise to the silent majority of Australians. The Executive Officer of the History Teachers Association of NSW , Louise Zarmati, advised a Senate Committee into the academic standards of school education in Sydney last week that students are not prepared to wear the guilt associated with the teaching of ‘progressive’ indigenous history. Hang about – what about a hung Parliament?

We should brace ourselves for the possibility of minority government after the election on March 24. Given that we now have fixed four year terms in NSW a ‘hung’ Parliament would be the worst possible outcome for the State. It matters not which major political party forms minority government, Labor or Liberal, the result will be the same. Political chaos for the next four years! (more…)
