Linda Burney’s comments on a private letter I wrote to the Parliamentary Remuneration tribunal indicate that Labor has not learned what issues are important for the State of NSW.

As Deputy Opposition Leader she needs to stop trawling through the political entrails of Labor’s rotting carcass and raise her head above the smoking wreck she and her fellow rorters left behind.

Burney’s comments are deliberately misleading. My letter to the judge in charge of the Parliamentary Remuneration Tribunal was to seek clarification of their rationale that led them to declare that Campbelltown (which is 50 km from Sydney on the city side of the Nepean River) is now country, and Camden (which is 70 km from Sydney on the country side of the Nepean River), in now city. Not even Alice could explain this judicial anomoly to the Mad Hatter!

Linda Burney’s pathetic attempt to re-ignite the embers of Labor’s class war is symptomatic of their position in the polls. It might well be part of the cafe conversation amongst her inner-city elites but it doesn’t wash with battlers trying to keep their heads above water after Burney, her factional mate, Ian McDonald, and their Ministerial mates rorted and trashed our economy. Burney was right up the front of Labor’s gravy train without a single squeak about their waste and mismanagement. What a hypocritical grubette she is!

Linda Burney is not only out of touch with voters beyond her inner-city pad – she is also out of touch with her former working class colleagues who lived west of the Nepean River. She has obviously not yet learned the reality of life beyond the tinted windows of her taxpayer funded limosuine.

Burney’s revelation that ‘Camden is not exactly Narrabri or Broken Hill’ is hardly news. Members who live further west in those areas have always received a higher allowance to compensate them for living in Sydney during Parliamentary sitting periods as they should. It beggars belief that she was not aware of that.

Labor deserves better than Linda Burney in a leadership role. The Liberals can only hope she stays in the job.

The four Labor members of Team McArthur, Graham West, Geoff Corrigan, Phil Costa and Andrew McDonald have been running around like shivers looking for a spine to run up over their stance on the sale of Hurlstone Agricultural High School, according to Liberal MLC for South West Sydney, Charlie Lynn.

‘They have had the ability to stop the fire-sale of Hurlstone since it was first announced.

‘Nathan Rees is a weak Premier who has a track record of backing down when there is a public backlash against unpopular decisions as witnessed with his backflip on student bus passes.

‘The members of Team Macarthur have been dubbed ‘Mice of Macarthur’ after scurrying around Parliament trying to dodge the issues surrounding the sale of Hurlstone. Paul Keating would have described them as four shivers looking for spine to run up.

‘They squibbed the opportunity to support an Opposition Bill to oppose the sale of the school when it was presented to the Parliament.

‘They squibbed the opportunity they had to walk into the Premier’s office and tell him the sale is not on.

‘While they talk tough in Macarthur they roll over and let the Premier tickle their tummies when they get inside the big house in Macquarie Street.

‘It is good to see they have finally found the collective ticker to represent their constituents. It now remains to see if they don’t gag when they front the Premier.

‘I am happy to offer bipartisan support and accompany them to the Premier’s door if that will help keep their collective ticker ticking,’ said Lynn.

‘When I introduced my Bill to save Hurlstone Agricultural High School in the Upper House recently the government shunted it off to an inquiry with the help of Fred Nile and the Shooters Party.

‘This was obviously a delaying tactic to buy some time and take some heat off the four Labor Members in Macarthur, Andrew McDonald, Graham West, Geoff Corrigan and Phil Costa.

‘Barry O’Farrell and Andrew Stoner then introduced a Private Members Bill in the Lower House to stop the sale of the school.

‘Graham West, Geoff Corrigan and Phil Costa voted against the Bill.

‘Andrew McDonald, who said it was ‘time to stand up and be counted’ didn’t bother to turn up for the vote.

‘Team Macarthur should now be rebadged as the ‘Mice of Macarthur’ – we haven’t heard a squeak out of them.

‘The sale of Hurlstone Agricultural High School to fill their record budget black-hole is a travesty.

‘Nobody has the right to trash our heritage for 30 pieces of silver.

‘The Mice of Macarthur can still stop the sale of the school if they can summon up the courage to walk into the Premier’s office and tell him its simply not on’, said Lynn.

‘But it’s a fair bet they will scarper back into their holes and not utter a single squeak’.
