Hi Charlie, I am a Vietnam Vet and previously resided in Leumeah NSW the wife, manned booths and I handed out Liberal Party leaflets during your campaigns. Heard a rumour that Kevin Rudd was a active protestors against the Vietnam war and or conscription, dont suppose you have any info.

Charlie, came across your email to Barry Martin OAM in Townsville. I’m his secreatry at the VVF.
Wonder if you could rattle some cages about the BEST Grant situation for small ESOs like VVF Townsville. Seems all the big money goes to the RSL and we small advocate ESOs receive a pittance. An example is Townsville RSL, one of the largest social clubs in north Queensland with hundreds of pokies!! Its sub branch has 3 full time paid advocates funded by BEST. They don’t do AATs but send them to Brisbane.
We are a solely volunteer organisation funded by meat tray raffles and the BEST Grant of $12,500 for wages for our admin officer and on costs. It’s pathetic, we do all advocate work, right through to and including AATs. Something smells! BEST Grants should be allocated on performance of veteran’s support and pension advocacy and welfare should be separately funded under BEST.
Anyway, always admired your independent streak as a Liberal. I’m an ex Qld Country VP and suffer from the same streak, must be the Navy in me.
